Matthew 16:17-28

17And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, 1Simon 2Barjona, because 3flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18I also say to you that you are 45Peter, and upon this 6rock I will build My church; and the gates of 7Hades will not overpower it. 19I will give you 8the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and 9whatever you bind on earth 10shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth 11shall have been loosed in heaven.” 2012Then He 13warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was 1415the Christ.

2116From that time 17Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and 18suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day. 22Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “19God forbid it, Lord! This shall never 20happen to You.” 23But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, 21Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on 22God’s interests, but man’s.”

24Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and 23take up his cross and follow Me. 25For 24whoever wishes to save his 25life will lose it; but whoever loses his 26life for My sake will find it. 26For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27For the 27Son of Man 28is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and 29will then 30repay every man according to his 31deeds.

28“Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the 32Son of Man 33coming in His kingdom.”
