Matthew 16:16-28

16Simon Peter answered, “You are 12the Christ, 3the Son of 4the living God.” 17And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, 5Simon 6Barjona, because 7flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18I also say to you that you are 89Peter, and upon this 10rock I will build My church; and the gates of 11Hades will not overpower it. 19I will give you 12the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and 13whatever you bind on earth 14shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth 15shall have been loosed in heaven.” 2016Then He 17warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was 1819the Christ.

2120From that time 21Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and 22suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day. 22Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “23God forbid it, Lord! This shall never 24happen to You.” 23But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, 25Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on 26God’s interests, but man’s.”

24Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and 27take up his cross and follow Me. 25For 28whoever wishes to save his 29life will lose it; but whoever loses his 30life for My sake will find it. 26For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27For the 31Son of Man 32is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and 33will then 34repay every man according to his 35deeds.

28“Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the 36Son of Man 37coming in His kingdom.”
