John 8:31-44
31So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “1If you continue in My word, then you are truly 2disciples of Mine; 32and 3you will know the truth, and 4the truth will make you free.” 33They answered Him, “5We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”
34Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, 6everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 357The slave does not remain in the house forever; 8the son does remain forever. 36So if the Son 9makes you free, you will be free indeed. 37I know that you are 10Abraham’s descendants; yet 11you seek to kill Me, because My word 12has no place in you. 38I speak the things which I have seen 13with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from 14your father.”
39They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is 15our father.” Jesus said to them, “16If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40But as it is, 17you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has 18told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41You are doing the deeds of 19your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; 20we have one Father: God.” 42Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, 21you would love Me, 22for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have 23not even come on My own initiative, but 2425He sent Me. 43Why do you not understand 2627what I am saying? It is because you cannot 28hear My word. 4429You are of 30your father the devil, and 31you want to do the desires of your father. 32He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because 33there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks 34a lie, he 35speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of 36lies.
