John 7:16-53
16So Jesus answered them and said, “1My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me. 172If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself. 18He who speaks from himself 3seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
19“4Did not Moses give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why do you 5seek to kill Me?” 20The crowd answered, “6You have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?” 21Jesus answered them, “I did 7one 8deed, and you all marvel. 22For this reason 9Moses has given you circumcision (not because it is from Moses, but from 10the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man. 2311If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made an entire man well on the Sabbath? 24Do not 12judge according to appearance, but 13judge with righteous judgment.”
25So some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this not the man whom they are seeking to kill? 26Look, He is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. 14The rulers do not really know that this is 15the Christ, do they? 27However, 16we know where this man is from; but whenever the Christ may come, no one knows where He is from.” 28Then Jesus cried out in the temple, 17teaching and saying, “18You both know Me and know where I am from; and 19I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know. 2920I know Him, because 21I am from Him, and 22He sent Me.” 30So they 23were seeking to seize Him; and no man laid his hand on Him, because His 24hour had not yet come. 31But 25many of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying, “26When 27the Christ comes, He will not perform more 2829signs than those which this man has, will He?”
32The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent 30officers to 31seize Him. 33Therefore Jesus said, “32For a little while longer I am with you, then 33I go to Him who sent Me. 3434You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.” 3535The Jews then said to one another, “36Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He is not intending to go to 37the Dispersion among 38the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, is He? 36What is this statement that He said, ‘39You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”
37Now on 40the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “4142If anyone is thirsty, 43let him come to Me and drink. 38He who believes in Me, 44as the Scripture said, ‘From 45his innermost being will flow rivers of 46living water.’” 39But this He spoke 47of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for 48the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet 49glorified.
40Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, “This certainly is 50the Prophet.” 41Others were saying, “This is 51the Christ.” Still others were saying, “52Surely 53the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He? 42Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from 54the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” 43So 55a division occurred in the crowd because of Him. 4456Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
45The 57officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?” 46The 58officers answered, “59Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks.” 47The Pharisees then answered them, “60You have not also been led astray, have you? 4861No one of 62the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he? 49But this crowd which does not know the Law is accursed.” 5063Nicodemus (he who came to Him before, being one of them) said to them, 51“64Our Law does not judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?” 52They answered him, “65You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.” 53[66Everyone went to his home.
