Hebrews 9:15-28

15For this reason 1He is the 2mediator of a 3new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been 4called may 5receive the promise of 6the eternal inheritance. 16For where a 7covenant is, there must of necessity 8be the death of the one who made it. 17For a 9covenant is valid only when 10men are dead, 11for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. 18Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood. 19For when every commandment had been 12spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, 13he took the 14blood of the calves and the goats, with 15water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both 16the book itself and all the people, 20saying, “17This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.” 21And in the same way he 18sprinkled both the 19tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood. 22And according to the 20Law, one may 21almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and 22without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

23Therefore it was necessary for the 23copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but 24the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24For Christ 25did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of 26the true one, but into 27heaven itself, now 28to appear in the presence of God for us; 25nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as 29the high priest enters 30the holy place 31year by year with blood that is not his own. 26Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since 32the foundation of the world; but now 33once at 34the consummation of the ages He has been 35manifested to put away sin 36 37by the sacrifice of Himself. 27And inasmuch as 38it is 39appointed for men to die once and after this 40comes judgment, 28so Christ also, having been 41offered once to 42bear the sins of many, will appear 43a second time for 44salvation 45without reference to sin, to those who 46eagerly await Him.
