Habakkuk 2:3-20
For the vision is yet for the 1appointed time; It 2hastens toward the goal and it will not 3fail. Though it tarries, 4wait for it; For it will certainly come, it 5will not delay.
“Behold, as for the 6proud one, His soul is not right within him; But the 7righteous will live by his 8faith.5Furthermore, 9wine betrays the 10haughty man, So that he does not 11stay at home. He 12enlarges his appetite like Sheol, And he is like death, never satisfied. He also gathers to himself all nations And collects to himself all peoples.
“Will not all of these 13take up a taunt-song against him, Even mockery and insinuations against him And say, ‘14Woe to him who increases what is not his-- For how long-- And makes himself 15rich with loans?’7Will not 16your creditors 17rise up suddenly, And those who 18collect from you awaken? Indeed, you will become plunder for them.8Because you have 19looted many nations, All the remainder of the peoples will loot you-- Because of human bloodshed and violence 20done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants.
“Woe to him who gets 21evil gain for his house To 22put his nest on high, To be delivered from the hand of calamity!10You have devised a 23shameful thing for your house By cutting off many peoples; So you are 24sinning against yourself.11Surely the 25stone will cry out from the wall, And the rafter will answer it from the 26framework.
“Woe to him who 27builds a city with bloodshed And founds a town with 28violence!13Is it not indeed from the Lord of hosts That peoples 29toil for fire, And nations grow weary for nothing?14For the earth will be 30filled With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, As the waters cover the sea.
“Woe to you who make 31your neighbors drink, Who mix in your venom even to make them drunk So as to look on their nakedness!16You will be filled with disgrace rather than honor. Now you yourself 32drink and 33expose your own nakedness. The 34cup in the Lord’s right hand will come around to you, And 35utter disgrace will come upon your glory.17For the 36violence 37done to Lebanon will 38overwhelm you, And the devastation of its beasts 39by which you terrified them, 40Because of human bloodshed and 41violence 42done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants.
“What 43profit is the 44idol when its maker has carved it, Or 45an image, a 46teacher of falsehood? For its maker 47trusts in his own handiwork When he fashions speechless idols.19Woe to him who 48says to a piece of wood, ‘49Awake!’ To a mute stone, ‘Arise!’ And that is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with 50gold and silver, And there is 51no breath at all inside it.20But the 52Lord is in His holy temple. 53Let all the earth 54be silent before Him.”
