Habakkuk 2:2-20
Then the Lord answered me and said, “1Record the vision And inscribe it on tablets, That 2the one who 3reads it may run.3For the vision is yet for the 4appointed time; It 5hastens toward the goal and it will not 6fail. Though it tarries, 7wait for it; For it will certainly come, it 8will not delay.
“Behold, as for the 9proud one, His soul is not right within him; But the 10righteous will live by his 11faith.5Furthermore, 12wine betrays the 13haughty man, So that he does not 14stay at home. He 15enlarges his appetite like Sheol, And he is like death, never satisfied. He also gathers to himself all nations And collects to himself all peoples.
“Will not all of these 16take up a taunt-song against him, Even mockery and insinuations against him And say, ‘17Woe to him who increases what is not his-- For how long-- And makes himself 18rich with loans?’7Will not 19your creditors 20rise up suddenly, And those who 21collect from you awaken? Indeed, you will become plunder for them.8Because you have 22looted many nations, All the remainder of the peoples will loot you-- Because of human bloodshed and violence 23done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants.
“Woe to him who gets 24evil gain for his house To 25put his nest on high, To be delivered from the hand of calamity!10You have devised a 26shameful thing for your house By cutting off many peoples; So you are 27sinning against yourself.11Surely the 28stone will cry out from the wall, And the rafter will answer it from the 29framework.
“Woe to him who 30builds a city with bloodshed And founds a town with 31violence!13Is it not indeed from the Lord of hosts That peoples 32toil for fire, And nations grow weary for nothing?14For the earth will be 33filled With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, As the waters cover the sea.
“Woe to you who make 34your neighbors drink, Who mix in your venom even to make them drunk So as to look on their nakedness!16You will be filled with disgrace rather than honor. Now you yourself 35drink and 36expose your own nakedness. The 37cup in the Lord’s right hand will come around to you, And 38utter disgrace will come upon your glory.17For the 39violence 40done to Lebanon will 41overwhelm you, And the devastation of its beasts 42by which you terrified them, 43Because of human bloodshed and 44violence 45done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants.
“What 46profit is the 47idol when its maker has carved it, Or 48an image, a 49teacher of falsehood? For its maker 50trusts in his own handiwork When he fashions speechless idols.19Woe to him who 51says to a piece of wood, ‘52Awake!’ To a mute stone, ‘Arise!’ And that is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with 53gold and silver, And there is 54no breath at all inside it.20But the 55Lord is in His holy temple. 56Let all the earth 57be silent before Him.”
