Galatians 3:10-24

10For as many as are of the works of 1the Law are under a curse; for it is written, “2Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to perform them.” 11Now that 3no one is justified 4by 5the Law before God is evident; for, “67The righteous man shall live by faith.” 128However, the Law is not 9of faith; on the contrary, “10He who practices them shall live 11by them.” 13Christ 12redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, “13Cursed is everyone who hangs on 14a 15tree”-- 14in order that 16in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might 17come to the Gentiles, so that we 18would receive 19the promise of the Spirit through faith.

1520Brethren, 21I speak 22in terms of human relations: 23even though it is only a man’s 24covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds 25conditions to it. 16Now the promises were spoken 26to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “27And to your seed,” that is, Christ. 17What I am saying is this: the Law, which came 28four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. 18For 29if the inheritance is 30based on law, it is no longer 31based on a promise; but 32God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.

1933Why the Law then? It was added 34because of transgressions, having been 35ordained through angels 36by the 37agency of a mediator, until 38the seed would come to whom the promise had been made. 20Now 39a mediator is not 40for one party only; whereas God is only one. 21Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? 41May it never be! For 42if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness 43would indeed have been 44based on law. 22But the Scripture has 45shut up 46everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

23But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, 47being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. 24Therefore the Law has become our 48tutor to lead us to Christ, so that 49we may be justified by faith.
