Amos 2
Judgment on Judah and Israel
1Thus says the Lord, “For three transgressions of 1Moab and for four I will not 2revoke its punishment, Because he 3burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.2So I will send fire upon Moab And it will consume the citadels of 4Kerioth; And Moab will die amid 5tumult, With 6war cries and the sound of a trumpet.3I will also cut off the 78judge from her midst And slay all her 9princes with him,” says the Lord.
4Thus says the Lord, “For three transgressions of 10Judah and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they 11rejected the law of the Lord And have not kept His statutes; Their 1213lies also have led them astray, Those after which their 14fathers walked.5So I will 15send fire upon Judah And it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem.”
6Thus says the Lord, “For three transgressions of 16Israel and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they 17sell the righteous for money And the needy for a pair of sandals.7These who 18pant after the very dust of the earth on the head of the 19helpless Also 20turn aside the way of the humble; And a 21man and his father 22resort to the same 23girl In order to profane My holy name.8On garments 24taken as pledges they stretch out beside 25every altar, And in the house of their God they 26drink the wine of those who have been fined.
9“Yet it was I who destroyed the 27Amorite before them, 28Though his 29height was like the height of cedars And he was strong as the oaks; I even destroyed his 30fruit above and his root below.10It was I who 31brought you up from the land of Egypt, And I led you in the wilderness 32forty years 33That you might take possession of the land of the 34Amorite.11Then I 35raised up some of your sons to be prophets And some of your young men to be 36Nazirites. Is this not so, O sons of Israel?” declares the Lord.12“But you made the Nazirites drink wine, And you commanded the prophets saying, ‘You 37shall not prophesy!’13Behold, I am 3839weighted down beneath you As a wagon 40is weighted down when filled with sheaves.144142Flight will perish from the swift, And the stalwart will not strengthen his power, Nor the 43mighty man save his 44life.15He who 45grasps the bow will not stand his ground, The swift of foot will not escape, Nor will he who rides the 46horse save his 47life.16Even the 48bravest among the warriors will 49flee naked in that day,” declares the Lord.
