Acts 14:11-17

11When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the 1Lycaonian language, “2The gods have become like men and have come down to us.”

12And they began calling Barnabas, 3Zeus, and Paul, 4Hermes, because he was 5the chief speaker.

13The priest of Zeus, whose temple was 6just outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and 7wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds.

14But when 8the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they 9tore their 10robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out

15and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We are also 11men of the same nature as you, and 12preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these 1314vain things to a 15living God, 16who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them.

1617In the generations gone by He 18permitted all the 19nations to 20go their own ways;

17and yet 21He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and 22gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, 23satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”
