2 Peter 3:7-13
7But by His word 1the present heavens and earth are being reserved for 2fire, kept for 3the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
8But do not let this one fact escape your notice, 4beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and 5a thousand years like one day. 96The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but 7is patient toward you, 8not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. 10But 9the day of the Lord 10will come like a thief, in which 11the heavens 12will pass away with a roar and the 13elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and 14the earth and 15its works will be 16burned up.
11Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 1217looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which 18the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the 19elements will melt with intense heat! 13But according to His 20promise we are looking for 21new heavens and a new earth, 22in which righteousness dwells.
