Hebrews 7:28
28In the old agreement, Moses' laws decide who will become special priests. Because those men are weak, they often do wrong things. But God's very strong promise came after the Law that he gave to Moses. With that promise, God chose his Son to be his special priest. And his Son has become everything that God wants him to be, completely and for ever.

Context of Hebrews 7:28
26Jesus is the kind of special priest that we need. He completely belongs to God. He has never done anything wrong. He is completely good and clean. He is separate from everyone who does wrong things. God has raised him up to the most important place in heaven. 27Jesus is not like the Levite priests. They need to offer sacrifices to God every day. First, they offer sacrifices so that God will forgive their own sins. Then they offer sacrifices on behalf of the other people, so that God will forgive their sins too. But Jesus offered one sacrifice for all time. That sacrifice was himself. In the old agreement, Moses' laws decide who will become special priests. Because those men are weak, they often do wrong things. But God's very strong promise came after the Law that he gave to Moses. With that promise, God chose his Son to be his special priest. And his Son has become everything that God wants him to be, completely and for ever.

- Hebrews 2:10It was right that God should bring Jesus back to heaven as king. All things belong to God, and he causes all things to continue. God wanted many people to become his children. - Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 28For the law maketh men high priests - The Jewish priests have need of these repeated offerings and sacrifices, because they are fallible, sinful men: but the word of the oath (still referring to Psalm 110:4;) which was since the law; for David, who mentions this, lived nearly 500 years after the giving of the law, and consequently that oath, constituting another priesthood, abrogates the law; and by this the Son is consecrated, , is perfected, for…Read the comment

Such were all who were appointed to the office of priest under the Jewish Law. But the word of the oath - By which one was appointed after the order of Melchizedek; note, Hebrews 7:21. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-28Verses 26-28 Observe the description of the personal holiness of Christ. He is free from all habits or principles of sin, not having the least disposition to it in his nature. No sin dwells in him, not the least sinful inclination, though such dwells in the best of Christians. He is harmless, free from all actual transgression; he did no violence, nor was there any deceit in his mouth. He is undefiled. It is hard to keep ourselves pure, so as not to…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 28This verse summarizes the discussion in 5:1–3 about Christ's role as High Priest (5:1–10; 7:1–28). Limited by human weakness refers primarily to human sinfulness and mortality. God appointed his Son, Jesus, with an oath (see Psalm 110:4, which is important for understanding Hebrews 7:11–28). In Hebrews, the term perfect means complete or mature (see 2:10; 5:9; 7:11; 9:9–11); the Son, through his sacrificial death and resurrection, has become completely…Read the comment
