1 Corinthians 16:2
2On the first day of every week, each of you should put some of your money in a safe place. Think about how much God has given you. Then decide how much you can give each week. If you do that, the gift will be ready when I come to you. We will not need to start doing it after I come.

Context of 1 Corinthians 16:2
1You asked me about the money that you want to give to God's people at Jerusalem. You should do it in the same way that I told the churches in Galatia. On the first day of every week, each of you should put some of your money in a safe place. Think about how much God has given you. Then decide how much you can give each week. If you do that, the gift will be ready when I come to you. We will not need to start doing it after I come. 3When I arrive there, you should choose people from your group who will take your gift to Jerusalem. I will write some letters that they will take with them. The letters will explain about your gift. 4I may also go myself, if that seems the right thing for me to do. Then they can travel with me.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2Upon the first day of the week - The apostle prescribes the most convenient and proper method of making this contribution. Every man was to feel it his duty to succor his brethren in distress. He was to do this according to the ability which God gave him. He was to do this at the conclusion of the week, when he had cast up his weekly earnings, and had seen how much God had prospered his labor. He was then to bring it on the first day of the week, as is…Read the comment

The first day was called the "Lord's Day," marking the day of the Lord's resurrection (Mark 16:9; Luke 24:13–15; John 20:19; Revelation 1:10). The amount of money to give was not specified. Paul later encouraged them to give as generously as possible (2 Corinthians 8:1–4; 9:6–13; compare Luke 12:33–34…Read the comment
