Context of John 6:64
62What then [will you think] if you see the Son of Man ascending to [the realm] where He was before? 63It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh conveys no benefit [it is of no account]. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life [providing eternal life]. But [still] there are some of you who do not believe and have faith.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who did not believe, and who would betray Him. 65And He was saying, “This is the reason why I have told you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him [that is, unless he is enabled to do so] by the Father.” 66As a result of this many of His disciples abandoned Him, and no longer walked with Him.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 64But there are some of you that believe not - This is addressed to Judas, and to those disciples who left him: John 6:66. And who should betray him - Or, who would deliver him up. Because he knew all things; he knew from the first, from Judas's call to the apostleship, and from eternity, (if the reader pleases), who it was who would (not should) deliver him up into the hands of the Jews. Should, in the apprehension of most, implies necessity and…Read the comment
