Context of Luke 9:36

34While he was yet saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35Then a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, the One I have chosen. Listen to Him!” And after the voice happened, Yeshua was found alone. They kept quiet and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen. 37On the next day as they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Yeshua. 38Suddenly a man from the crowd shouted out loudly, saying, “Teacher, I’m begging You to look at my son, for he’s my only child!

• Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-36Verses 28-36 Christ's transfiguration was a specimen of that glory in which he will come to judge the world; and was an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him. Prayer is a transfiguring, transforming duty, which makes the face to shine. Our Lord Jesus, even in his transfiguration, was willing to speak concerning his death and sufferings. In our greatest glories on earth, let us remember that in this world we have no continuing city. What need we…Read the comment

• Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 3636. Jesus was found alone--Moses and Elias are gone. Their work is done, and they have disappeared from the scene, feeling no doubt with their fellow servant the Baptist, "He must increase, but I must decrease." The cloud too is gone, and the naked majestic Christ, braced in spirit, and enshrined in the reverent affection of His disciples, is left--to suffer! kept it close--feeling, for once at least, that such things were unmeet as yet for the general…Read the comment
