Context of Luke 9:36
34While Peter was speaking, a cloud appeared. It covered them all. When the cloud came over them, the three disciples were afraid. 35Then a voice spoke from the cloud and it said, ‘This is my Son. He is the one that I have chosen. Listen to him.’ The voice stopped speaking. Then the three disciples saw that only Jesus was there with them now. They did not tell anyone at this time about what they had seen. 37The next day Jesus came down from the mountain with the three disciples. A large crowd met him. 38A man from the crowd shouted to him. ‘Teacher, please, I ask you to help my son. He is my only child.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-36Verses 28-36 Christ's transfiguration was a specimen of that glory in which he will come to judge the world; and was an encouragement to his disciples to suffer for him. Prayer is a transfiguring, transforming duty, which makes the face to shine. Our Lord Jesus, even in his transfiguration, was willing to speak concerning his death and sufferings. In our greatest glories on earth, let us remember that in this world we have no continuing city. What need we…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 28-36At the transfiguration, Jesus revealed his true glory in the presence of three disciples. This confirmed Peter's belief that Jesus was the Christ. - Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 3636. Jesus was found alone--Moses and Elias are gone. Their work is done, and they have disappeared from the scene, feeling no doubt with their fellow servant the Baptist, "He must increase, but I must decrease." The cloud too is gone, and the naked majestic Christ, braced in spirit, and enshrined in the reverent affection of His disciples, is left--to suffer! kept it close--feeling, for once at least, that such things were unmeet as yet for the general…Read the comment
