Judges 14
Revised Version 1895
1And SamsonH8123 wentH3381 downH3381 to TimnahH8553, and sawH7200 a womanH802 in TimnahH8553 of the daughtersH1323 of the PhilistinesH6430. 2And he cameH5927 upH5927, and toldH5046 his fatherH1 and his motherH517, and saidH559, I have seenH7200 a womanH802 in TimnahH8553 of the daughtersH1323 of the PhilistinesH6430: nowH6258 therefore getH3947 herH5046 for meH5046 to wifeH802. 3Then his fatherH1 and his motherH517 saidH559 unto him, Is there neverH369 a womanH802 among the daughtersH1323 of thy brethrenH251, or among allH3605 my peopleH5971, that thou goest to takeH3947 a wifeH802 of the uncircumcisedH6189 PhilistinesH6430? And SamsonH8123 saidH559 unto his fatherH1, GetH3947 herH3605 for meH413; for sheH1931 pleaseth meH413 well. 4But his fatherH1 and his motherH517 knewH3045 notH3808 that it was of the LORDH3068; for he soughtH1245 an occasion against the PhilistinesH6430. NowH3588 at that time the PhilistinesH6430 had ruleH4910 over IsraelH3478. 5Then wentH935 SamsonH8123 downH3381, and his fatherH1 and his motherH517, to TimnahH8553, and cameH935 to the vineyardsH3754 of TimnahH8553: and, beholdH2009, a youngH3715 lionH738 roaredH7580 againstH7125 him. 6And the spiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 cameH7307 mightily uponH5921 him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothingH3808 in his handH3027: but he toldH5046 notH3808 his fatherH1 or his motherH517 whatH834 he had doneH6213. 7And he wentH3381 downH3381, and talkedH1696 with the womanH802; and she pleasedH5869 SamsonH8123 well. 8And afterH3117 a whileH3117 he returnedH7725 to takeH3947 herH3947, and he turnedH7725 asideH5493 to seeH7200 the carcase of the lionH738: and, beholdH2009, there was a swarmH5712 of beesH1682 in the body of the lionH738, and honeyH1706. 9And he tookH1980 it intoH413 his handsH3709, and wentH1980 on, eatingH398 as he wentH1980, and he cameH1980 to his fatherH1 and motherH517, and gaveH5414 unto them, and they didH3808 eatH398: but he toldH5046 them notH3808 that he had takenH5414 the honeyH1706 outH413 of the body of the lionH738. 10And his fatherH1 wentH3381 downH3381 unto the womanH802: and SamsonH8123 madeH6213 there a feastH4960; for soH3651 usedH6213 the youngH970 menH970 to doH6213. 11And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when they sawH7200 him, that they broughtH3947 thirtyH7970 companionsH4828 to be with him. 12And SamsonH8123 saidH559 unto them, LetH4994 meH5414 nowH4994 putH5414 forthH5414 a riddleH2420 unto youH5414: ifH518 ye canH518 declareH5046 it meH5414 within the sevenH7651 daysH3117 of the feastH4960, and findH4672 it outH4672, then I will giveH5414 youH5414 thirtyH7970 linenH5466 garmentsH899 and thirtyH7970 changesH2487 of raiment: 13but ifH518 ye cannotH3808 declareH5046 it meH5414, then shall ye giveH5414 meH5414 thirtyH7970 linenH5466 garmentsH899 and thirtyH7970 changesH2487 of raiment. And they saidH559 unto him, PutH5414 forthH5414 thy riddleH2420, that weH518 may hearH8085 it. 14And he saidH559 unto them, OutH3318 of the eaterH398 cameH3318 forthH3318 meat, and outH3318 of the strongH5794 cameH3318 forthH3318 sweetness. And they couldH3201 notH3808 in threeH7969 daysH3117 declareH5046 the riddleH2420. 15And it cameH1961 to passH1961 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, that they saidH559 unto Samson’sH8123 wifeH802, Entice thy husbandH376, that he may declareH5046 unto usH5046 the riddleH2420, lestH6435 weH3117 burnH8313 thee and thy father’sH1 houseH1004 with fireH784: have ye calledH7121 usH5046 to impoverishH3423 usH5046? is it notH3808 soH6435? 16And Samson’sH8123 wifeH802 weptH1058 beforeH5921 him, and saidH559, Thou dost but hateH8130 meH5046, and lovest meH5046 notH3808: thou hast put forth a riddleH2420 unto the childrenH1121 of my peopleH5971, and hast notH3808 toldH5046 it meH5046. And he saidH559 unto herH5046, BeholdH2009, I have notH3808 toldH5046 it my fatherH1 norH3808 my motherH517, and shall I tellH5046 it thee? 17And sheH834 weptH1058 beforeH5921 him the sevenH7651 daysH3117, whileH1961 their feastH4960 lastedH1961: and it cameH1961 to passH1961 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, that he toldH5046 herH5046, becauseH3588 sheH834 pressedH6693 him sore: and sheH834 toldH5046 the riddleH2420 to the childrenH1121 of herH5046 peopleH5971. 18And the menH376 of the cityH5892 saidH559 unto him on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 beforeH2962 the sun wentH935 down, WhatH4100 is sweeterH4966 thanH3808 honeyH1706? and whatH4100 is strongerH5794 thanH3808 a lionH738? And he saidH559 unto them, IfH3884 ye had notH3808 plowedH2790 with my heiferH5697, ye had notH3808 foundH4672 outH4100 my riddleH2420. 19And the spiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 cameH5927 mightily uponH5921 him, and he wentH5927 downH3381 to AshkelonH831, and smoteH5221 thirtyH7970 menH376 of them, and tookH3947 their spoilH2488, and gaveH5414 the changesH2487 of raiment unto them that declaredH5046 the riddleH2420. And his angerH639 was kindledH2734, and he wentH5927 upH5927 to his father’sH1 houseH1004. 20But Samson’sH8123 wifeH802 was given to his companionH4828, whomH834 he had usedH1961 as his friend.
