2 Samuel 13:1-20

1And it cameH1961 to passH1961 afterH310 this, that AbsalomH53 the sonH1121 of DavidH1732 had a fairH3303 sisterH269, whoseH1121 nameH8034 was TamarH8559; and AmnonH550 the sonH1121 of DavidH1732 lovedH157 herH1961.

2And AmnonH550 was soH6213 vexed that he fell sickH2470 becauseH3588 of his sisterH269 TamarH8559; for sheH1931 was a virginH1330; and it seemedH5869 hardH6381 to AmnonH550 to doH6213 anyH3972 thingH3588 unto herH3588.

3But AmnonH550 had a friendH7453, whoseH1121 nameH8034 was JonadabH3122, the sonH1121 of ShimeahH8093 David’sH1732 brotherH251: and JonadabH3122 was a veryH3966 subtil manH376.

4And he saidH559 unto him, WhyH4069, O sonH1121 of the kingH4428, art thou thusH3602 lean from dayH1242 to dayH1242? wilt thou notH3808 tellH5046 meH5046? And AmnonH550 saidH559 unto him, I loveH157 TamarH8559, my brotherH251 Absalom’sH53 sisterH269.

5And JonadabH3082 saidH559 unto him, LayH7901 thee downH7901 on thy bedH4904, and feign thyself sickH2470: and when thy fatherH1 cometh to seeH7200 thee, sayH559 unto him, LetH4994 my sisterH269 TamarH8559 comeH935, I prayH4994 thee, and giveH398 meH413 breadH3899 to eatH398, and dress the foodH3899 in my sightH5869, that I may seeH7200 it, and eatH398 it at herH413 handH3027.

6SoH935 AmnonH550 layH7901 downH7901, and feigned himselfH3027 sickH2470: and when the kingH4428 was comeH935 to seeH7200 him, AmnonH550 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, LetH4994 my sisterH269 TamarH8559 comeH935, I prayH4994 thee, and makeH7200 meH413 a coupleH8147 of cakesH3834 in my sightH5869, that I may eatH1262 at herH413 handH3027.

7Then DavidH1732 sentH7971 homeH1004 to TamarH8559, sayingH559, GoH7971 nowH4994 to thy brotherH251 Amnon’sH550 houseH1004, and dress him foodH1279.

8SoH3947 TamarH8559 wentH1004 to herH3947 brotherH251 Amnon’sH550 houseH1004; and he was laidH7901 downH7901. And sheH1931 tookH3947 doughH1217, and kneadedH3888 it, and madeH3947 cakesH3834 in his sightH5869, and did bake the cakesH3834.

9And sheH6440 tookH3947 the panH4958, and pouredH3332 them outH3318 beforeH6440 him; but he refusedH3985 to eatH398. And AmnonH550 saidH559, Have outH3318 allH3605 menH376 from meH6440. And they wentH3318 outH3318 everyH3605 manH376 from him.

10And AmnonH550 saidH559 unto TamarH8559, BringH935 the foodH1279 intoH413 the chamberH2315, that I may eatH1262 of thine handH3027. And TamarH8559 tookH3947 the cakesH3834 whichH834 sheH834 had madeH6213, and broughtH935 them intoH413 the chamberH2315 to AmnonH550 herH413 brotherH251.

11And when sheH7901 had broughtH935 them nearH5066 unto him to eatH398, he tookH2388 holdH2388 of herH413, and saidH559 unto herH413, ComeH935 lieH7901 with meH413, my sisterH269.

12And sheH3588 answeredH559 him, Nay, my brotherH251, doH6213 notH3808 force meH3808; for noH3808 suchH3651 thingH5039 ought to be doneH6213 in IsraelH3478: doH6213 notH3808 thou this follyH5039.

13And I, whither shall I carry my shameH2781? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the foolsH5036 in IsraelH3478. NowH6258 therefore, I prayH4994 thee, speakH1696 unto the kingH4428; for he will notH3808 withholdH4513 meH413 from thee.

14Howbeit he would notH3808 hearken unto herH8085 voiceH6963: but being strongerH2388 thanH4480 sheH7901, he forced herH8085, and layH7901 with herH8085.

15Then AmnonH550 hatedH8130 herH559 with exceedingH3966 greatH1419 hatredH8135; for the hatredH8135 wherewith he hatedH8130 herH559 was greaterH1419 thanH1419 the loveH157 wherewith he had lovedH157 herH559. And AmnonH550 saidH559 unto herH559, AriseH6965, be gone.

16And sheH834 saidH559 unto him, NotH3808 soH6213, becauseH834 this greatH1419 wrongH7451 in puttingH7971 meH7971 forthH7971 is worseH7451 thanH3808 the otherH312 that thou didst unto meH7971. But he would notH3808 hearken unto herH7971.

17Then he calledH7121 his servantH5288 that ministeredH8334 unto him, and saidH559, PutH7971 nowH4994 this woman outH7971 from meH4994, and bolt the doorH1817 afterH310 herH7971.

18And sheH3588 had a garmentH3801 of divers colours uponH5921 herH5921: for with suchH3651 robesH4598 were the king’sH4428 daughtersH1323 that were virginsH1330 apparelled. Then his servantH8334 broughtH3318 herH5921 outH3318, and bolted the doorH1817 afterH310 herH5921.

19And TamarH8559 putH7760 ashesH665 on herH3947 headH7218, and rent herH3947 garmentH3801 of divers colours that was on herH3947; and sheH834 laidH7760 herH3947 handH3027 on herH3947 headH7218, and wentH1980 herH3947 wayH1980, cryingH2199 aloudH2199 as sheH834 wentH1980.

20And AbsalomH53 herH413 brotherH251 saidH559 unto herH413, Hath AmnonH550 thy brotherH251 been with thee? but nowH6258 holdH7896 thy peace, my sisterH269: he is thy brotherH251; takeH1961 notH408 this thingH1697 to heartH3820. SoH1961 TamarH8559 remainedH3427 desolateH8076 in herH413 brotherH251 Absalom’sH53 houseH1004.
