14And it cameH1961 to passH1961 in the morningH1242, that DavidH1732 wroteH3789 a letterH5612 to JoabH3097, and sentH7971 it by the handH3027 of UriahH223. 15And he wroteH3789 in the letterH5612, sayingH559, SetH7725 ye UriahH223 in the forefront of the hottest battleH4421, and retireH7725 ye from him, that he may be smittenH5221, and dieH4191. 16And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when JoabH3097 keptH8104 watchH8104 uponH1961 the cityH5892, that he assignedH5414 UriahH223 unto the placeH4725 whereH834 he knewH3045 that valiantH2428 menH376 were. 17And the menH376 of the cityH5892 wentH3318 outH3318, and foughtH3898 with JoabH3097: and there fellH5307 someH4480 of the peopleH5971, evenH1571 of the servantsH5650 of DavidH1732; and UriahH223 the HittiteH2850 diedH4191 also. 18Then JoabH3097 sentH7971 and toldH5046 DavidH1732 allH3605 the things concerning the warH4421; 19and he chargedH6680 the messengerH4397, sayingH559, When thou hast madeH1696 an endH3615 of tellingH1696 allH3605 the things concerning the warH4421 unto the kingH4428, 20it shall be that, ifH518 the king’sH4428 wrathH2534 ariseH5927, and he sayH559 unto thee, Wherefore wentH5927 ye soH1961 nigh unto the cityH5892 to fightH3898? knewH3045 ye notH3808 that they would shootH3384 from the wallH2346? 21who smoteH5221 AbimelechH40 the sonH1121 of JerubbeshethH3380? didH4100 notH3808 a womanH802 castH7993 an upperH7393 millstoneH7393 uponH5921 him from the wallH2346, that he diedH4191 at ThebezH8405? whyH4100 wentH5066 ye soH3808 nigh the wallH2346? then shalt thou sayH559, Thy servantH5650 UriahH223 the HittiteH2850 is deadH4191 also. 22SoH7971 the messengerH4397 wentH935, and cameH935 and shewed DavidH1732 allH3605 that JoabH3097 had sentH7971 him for. 23And the messengerH4397 saidH559 unto DavidH1732, The menH376 prevailedH1396 againstH5921 usH413 and cameH1961 outH3318 unto usH413 intoH413 the fieldH7704, and weH3588 were uponH5921 them evenH5704 unto the entering of the gateH8179. 24And the shooters shotH3384 at thy servantsH5650 from offH5921 the wallH2346; and some of the king’sH4428 servantsH5650 be deadH4191, and thy servantH5650 UriahH223 the HittiteH2850 is deadH4191 also. 25Then DavidH1732 saidH559 unto the messengerH4397, ThusH3541 shalt thou sayH559 unto JoabH3097, LetH408 notH408 this thingH1697 displease thee, for the swordH2719 devoureth one as well as anotherH2088: makeH2388 thy battleH4421 moreH3588 strongH2388 againstH413 the cityH5892, and overthrowH2040 it: and encourageH2388 thou him. 26And when the wifeH802 of UriahH223 heardH8085 that UriahH223 herH5921 husbandH376 was deadH4191, sheH3588 madeH8085 lamentation for herH5921 husbandH376. 27And when the mourningH60 was past, DavidH1732 sentH7971 and tookH1961 herH413 homeH1004 to his houseH1004, and sheH834 becameH3205 his wifeH802, and bare him a sonH1121.
