Revised Version 1895
Kings 12:1-20
And RehoboamH7346 wentH935 to ShechemH7927: for allH3605 IsraelH3478 were comeH935 to ShechemH7927 to makeH3588 him kingH4427.
And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028 heardH8085 of it, (for he was yet in EgyptH4714, wither he had fledH1272 from the presenceH6440 of kingH4428 SolomonH8010, and JeroboamH3379 dweltH3427 in EgyptH4714,
and they sentH7971 and calledH7121 him;) that JeroboamH3379 and allH3605 the congregationH6951 of IsraelH3478 cameH935, and spake unto RehoboamH7346, sayingH559,
Thy fatherH1 madeH5414 our yokeH5923 grievousH3515: nowH6258 therefore makeH5414 thou the grievousH3515 serviceH5656 of thy fatherH1, and his heavyH3515 yokeH5923 whichH834 he putH5414 uponH5921 usH5414, lighterH7043, and weH834 will serveH5647 thee.
And he saidH559 unto them, Depart yet for threeH7969 daysH3117, then comeH7725 againH5750 to meH413. And the peopleH5971 departed.
And kingH4428 RehoboamH7346 tookH853 counselH3289 with the oldH2205 menH5971, that had stoodH5975 beforeH6440 SolomonH8010 his fatherH1 whileH1961 he yet livedH2416, sayingH559, WhatH834 counselH3289 giveH7725 ye meH6440 to returnH7725 answerH7725 to this peopleH5971?
And they spake unto him, sayingH559, IfH518 thou wilt be a servantH5650 unto this peopleH5971 this dayH3117, and wilt serveH5647 them, and answerH6030 them, and speakH1696 goodH2896 wordsH1697 to them, then they will be thy servantsH5650 for everH2088.
But he forsook the counselH6098 of the oldH2205 menH2205 whichH834 they had givenH3289 him, and tookH853 counselH6098 with the youngH3206 menH2205 that were grownH1431 upH5975 with him, that stoodH5975 beforeH6440 him.
And he saidH559 unto them, WhatH4100 counselH3289 giveH5414 ye, that weH834 may returnH7725 answerH7725 to this peopleH5971, who have spokenH1696 to meH413, sayingH559, MakeH5414 the yokeH5923 that thy fatherH1 didH4100 putH5414 uponH5921 usH5414 lighterH7043?
And the youngH3206 menH5971 that were grownH1431 upH5921 with him spake unto him, sayingH559, ThusH3541 shalt thou sayH559 unto this peopleH5971 that spake unto thee, sayingH559, Thy fatherH1 madeH3513 our yokeH5923 heavyH3513, but makeH1431 thou it lighterH7043 unto usH413; thusH3541 shalt thou speakH1696 unto them, My littleH6995 fingerH6995 is thickerH5666 thanH5921 my father’sH1 loinsH4975.
And nowH6258 whereasH6258 my fatherH1 didH3254 lade youH5921 with a heavyH3515 yokeH5923, I will addH3254 to your yokeH5923: my fatherH1 chastisedH3256 youH5921 with whipsH7752, but I will chastiseH3256 youH5921 with scorpionsH6137.
SoH834 JeroboamH3379 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 cameH935 to RehoboamH7346 the thirdH7992 dayH3117, as the kingH4428 bade, sayingH559, ComeH935 to meH413 againH7725 the thirdH7992 dayH3117.
And the kingH4428 answeredH6030 the peopleH5971 roughly, and forsook the counselH6098 of the oldH2205 menH5971 whichH834 they had givenH3289 him;
and spake to them afterH5921 the counselH6098 of the youngH3206 menH3206, sayingH559, My fatherH1 madeH3513 your yokeH5923 heavyH3513, but I will addH3254 to your yokeH5923: my fatherH1 chastisedH3256 youH5921 with whipsH7752, but I will chastiseH3256 youH5921 with scorpionsH6137;
SoH4616 the kingH4428 hearkened notH3808 unto the peopleH5971; for it was a thingH1697 broughtH1961 aboutH1961 of the LORDH3068, that he might establishH6965 his wordH1697, whichH834 the LORDH3068 spake by the handH3027 of AhijahH281 the ShiloniteH7888 to JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028.
And when allH3605 IsraelH3478 sawH7200 that the kingH4428 hearkened notH3808 unto them, the peopleH5971 answeredH559 the kingH4428, sayingH559, WhatH4100 portionH2506 have weH3588 in DavidH1732? neitherH3808 have weH3588 inheritanceH5159 in the sonH1121 of JesseH3448: to your tentsH168, O IsraelH3478: nowH6258 seeH7200 to thine own houseH1004, DavidH1732. SoH3808 IsraelH3478 departed unto their tentsH168.
But as for the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 which dweltH3427 in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, RehoboamH7346 reignedH4427 over them.
Then kingH4428 RehoboamH7346 sentH7971 AdoramH151, who was over the levy; and allH3605 IsraelH3478 stonedH7275 him with stonesH68, that he diedH4191. And kingH4428 RehoboamH7346 madeH553 speed to getH5927 him upH5927 to his chariotH4818, to fleeH5127 to JerusalemH3389.
SoH2088 IsraelH3478 rebelledH6586 againstH6586 the houseH1004 of DavidH1732, unto this dayH3117.
And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when allH3605 IsraelH3478 heardH8085 that JeroboamH3379 was returnedH7725, that they sentH7971 and calledH7121 him unto the congregationH5712, and madeH1961 him kingH4427 over allH3605 IsraelH3478: there was noneH3808 that followedH310 the houseH1004 of DavidH1732, but the tribeH7626 of JudahH3063 onlyH905.
