Chronicles 21:1-28

And SatanH7854 stoodH5975 upH5975 againstH5921 IsraelH3478, and movedH5496 DavidH1732 to numberH4487 IsraelH3478.

And DavidH1732 saidH559 to JoabH3097 and to the princesH8269 of the peopleH5971, GoH935, numberH4557 IsraelH3478 from Beer-sheba evenH5704 to DanH1835; and bringH935 meH413 wordH559, that I may knowH3045 the sum of them.

And JoabH3097 saidH559, The LORDH3068 makeH3254 his peopleH5971 an hundredH3967 timesH6471 soH1961 manyH4100 moreH3254 as they be: but, my lordH3068 the kingH4428, are they notH3808 allH3605 my lord’sH3068 servantsH5650? whyH4100 doth my lordH3068 requireH1245 this thingH2063? whyH4100 will he be a causeH819 of guiltH819 unto IsraelH3478?

Nevertheless the king’sH4428 wordH1697 prevailedH2388 againstH5921 JoabH3097. Wherefore JoabH3097 departedH1980, and wentH1980 throughoutH3605 allH3605 IsraelH3478, and cameH935 to JerusalemH3389.

And JoabH3097 gaveH5414 upH5414 the sum of the numberingH4557 of the peopleH5971 unto DavidH1732. And allH3605 they of IsraelH3478 were a thousandH505 thousandH505 and an hundredH3967 thousandH505 menH376 that drewH8025 swordH2719: and JudahH3063 was fourH702 hundredH3967 threescore and ten thousandH505 menH376 that drewH8025 swordH2719;

But LeviH3878 and BenjaminH1144 countedH6485 he notH3808 among them: for the king’sH4428 wordH1697 was abominableH8581 to JoabH3097.

And GodH430 was displeasedH7489 with this thingH1697; therefore he smoteH5221 IsraelH3478.

And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto GodH430, I have sinnedH2398 greatlyH3966, in that I have doneH6213 this thingH1697: but nowH6258, put awayH5674, I beseechH4994 thee, the iniquityH5771 of thy servantH5650; for I have doneH6213 veryH3966 foolishlyH5528.

And the LORDH3068 spake unto GadH1410, David’sH1732 seerH2374, sayingH559,

Go and speakH1696 unto DavidH1732, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, I offerH6213 thee threeH7969 things; chooseH977 thee one of them, that I may doH6213 it unto thee.

SoH3541 GadH1410 cameH935 to DavidH1732, and saidH559 unto him, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, TakeH935 which thou wilt;

eitherH518 threeH7969 yearsH8141 of famineH7458; or threeH7969 monthsH2320 to be consumed beforeH6440 thy foes, whileH3117 that the swordH2719 of thine enemiesH341 overtaketh thee; or elseH3605 threeH7969 daysH3117 the swordH2719 of the LORDH3068, evenH518 pestilenceH1698 in the landH776, and the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 destroyingH7843 throughoutH3605 allH3605 the coasts of IsraelH3478. NowH6258 therefore considerH7200 whatH4100 answerH7725 I shall returnH7725 to him that sentH7971 meH7971.

And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto GadH1410, I am in a greatH3966 strait: letH4994 meH413 fallH5307 nowH4994 intoH413 the handH3027 of the LORDH3068; for veryH3966 greatH3966 are his merciesH7356: and letH4994 meH413 notH408 fallH5307 intoH413 the handH3027 of manH120.

SoH5414 the LORDH3068 sentH5414 a pestilenceH1698 uponH5307 IsraelH3478: and there fellH5307 of IsraelH3478 seventyH7657 thousandH505 menH376.

And GodH430 sentH7971 an angelH4397 unto JerusalemH3389 to destroyH7843 it: and as he was aboutH5921 to destroyH7843, the LORDH3068 beheld, and he repentedH5162 him of the evilH7451, and saidH559 to the destroyingH7843 angelH4397, It is enoughH7227; nowH6258 stayH5975 thine handH3027. And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 stoodH5975 by the threshing-floor of OrnanH771 the JebusiteH2983.

And DavidH1732 liftedH5375 upH5375 his eyesH5869, and sawH7200 the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 standH5975 betweenH996 the earthH776 and the heavenH8064, having a drawnH8025 swordH2719 in his handH3027 stretchedH5186 outH5186 everH5375 JerusalemH3389. Then DavidH1732 and the eldersH2205, clothedH3680 in sackclothH8242, fellH5307 uponH5921 their facesH6440.

And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto GodH430, Is it notH3808 I that commandedH559 the peopleH5971 to be numberedH4487? evenH3808 I it is that have sinnedH2398 and doneH6213 very wickedly; but theseH428 sheepH6629, whatH4100 have they doneH6213? letH4994 thine handH3027, I prayH4994 thee, O LORDH3068 my GodH430, be againstH413 meH413, and againstH413 my father’sH1 houseH1004; but notH3808 againstH413 thy peopleH5971, that they should be plaguedH4046.

Then the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 commandedH559 GadH1410 to sayH559 to DavidH1732, that DavidH1732 should goH5927 upH5927, and rear an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068 in the threshing-floor of OrnanH771 the JebusiteH2983.

And DavidH1732 wentH5927 upH5927 at the sayingH1697 of GadH1410, whichH834 he spake in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068.

And OrnanH771 turnedH7725 backH7725, and sawH7200 the angelH4397; and his fourH702 sonsH1121 that were with him hidH2244 themselvesH2244. Now OrnanH771 was threshingH1758 wheatH2406.

And as DavidH1732 cameH935 to OrnanH771, OrnanH771 lookedH7200 and sawH7200 DavidH1732, and wentH3318 outH3318 of the threshing-floor, and bowedH7812 himselfH7812 to DavidH1732 with his faceH639 to the groundH776.

Then DavidH1732 saidH559 to OrnanH771, GiveH5414 meH413 the placeH4725 of this threshing-floor, that I may buildH1129 thereonH5921 an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068: for the fullH4392 priceH3701 shalt thou giveH5414 it meH413: that the plagueH4046 may be stayedH6113 from the peopleH5971.

And OrnanH771 saidH559 unto DavidH1732, TakeH3947 it to thee, and letH5414 my lordH113 the kingH4428 doH6213 that whichH5869 is goodH2896 in his eyesH5869: lo, I giveH5414 thee the oxenH1241 for burntH5930 offeringsH4503, and the threshingH4173 instruments for woodH6086, and the wheatH2406 for the mealH4503 offering; I giveH5414 it allH3605.

And kingH4428 DavidH1732 saidH559 to OrnanH771, Nay; but I will verily buyH7069 it for the fullH4392 priceH3701: for I will notH3808 takeH5375 that whichH834 is thine for the LORDH3068, norH3808 offerH5927 a burntH5930 offering withoutH3808 costH2600.

SoH5414 DavidH1732 gaveH5414 to OrnanH771 for the placeH4725 sixH8337 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of goldH2091 by weightH4948.

And DavidH1732 builtH1129 there an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068, and offeredH5927 burntH5930 offeringsH8002 and peaceH8002 offeringsH8002, and calledH7121 uponH5921 the LORDH3068; and he answeredH6030 him from heavenH8064 by fireH784 uponH5921 the altarH4196 of burntH5930 offering.

And the LORDH3068 commandedH559 the angelH4397; and he putH7725 upH413 his swordH2719 againH7725 intoH413 the sheathH5084 thereof.

At that time, when DavidH1732 sawH7200 that the LORDH3068 had answeredH6030 him in the threshing-floor of OrnanH771 the JebusiteH2983, then he sacrificedH2076 there.
