Context of Mark 10:27
25In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!” 26The disciples were astounded. “Then who in the world can be saved?” they asked. Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.” 28Then Peter began to speak up. “We’ve given up everything to follow you,” he said. 29“Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News,

Commentaries on Mark 10:27
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 17-31Verses 17-31 See this passage illustrated in the notes at Matthew 19:16-30. Mark 10:17 Gone forth - From the place where he had been teaching. Into the way - Into the road or path on his journey. Running - Thus showing the intensity with which he desired to know the way of life. Zeal to know the way to be saved is proper, nor is it possible that it should be too intense if well directed. Nothing else is so important, and nothing demands, therefore, so…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 23-31Verses 23-31 Christ took this occasion to speak to his disciples about the difficulty of the salvation of those who have abundance of this world. Those who thus eagerly seek the wealth of the world, will never rightly prize Christ and his grace. Also, as to the greatness of the salvation of those who have but little of this world, and leave it for Christ. The greatest trial of a good man's constancy is, when love to Jesus calls him to give up love to…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 27People usually interpret this verse in one of two ways: Although salvation by one’s own effort is impossible, by God’s grace people can be saved through faith (see Ephesians 2:8–10). God can give an unusual grace that enables people to overcome their sinful love of riches and believe. Mark does not explain his understanding.Read the comment
