Context of Luke 3:22
20So Herod put John in prison, adding this sin to his many others. 21One day when the crowds were being baptized, Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.” 23Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his public ministry. Jesus was known as the son of Joseph. Joseph was the son of Heli. 24Heli was the son of Matthat. Matthat was the son of Levi. Levi was the son of Melki. Melki was the son of Jannai. Jannai was the son of Joseph.

Commentaries on Luke 3:22
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 21-22Verses 21-22 Christ did not confess sin, as others did, for he had none to confess; but he prayed, as others did, and kept up communion with his Father. Observe, all the three voices from heaven, by which the Father bare witness to the Son, were pronounced while he was praying, or soon after, Lu 9:35; Joh 12:28. The Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and there came a voice from heaven, from God the Father, from the excellent…Read the comment

You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased: This statement connects with Psalm 2:7 and Isaiah 42:1. Psalm 2:7 shows that Jesus is the Messiah (the Christ, the promised King) from David’s family line. Isaiah 42:1 shows the servant of the Lord (the one chosen to carry out God’s work). God again declared who Jesus is from heaven at his transfiguration (when his…Read the comment
