Context of Acts 5:14
12The apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon’s Colonnade. 13But no one else dared to join them, even though all the people had high regard for them. Yet more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord—crowds of both men and women. 15As a result of the apostles’ work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter’s shadow might fall across some of them as he went by. 16Crowds came from the villages around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil spirits, and they were all healed.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14And believers were the more added to the Lord - Believers: Those who credited the Divine mission of Christ. That he was the Messiah. That he died for their sins. That he rose again. That he ascended into heaven. That he sent down the gift of the Holy Spirit. That he ever appeared in the presence of God for them. That it was he who gives repentance and remission of sins. And, He by whom the world is to be judged. These were simple articles, of the truth of…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14And believers - This is the name by which Christians were designated, because one of the main things that distinguished them was that they “believed” that Jesus was the Christ. It is also an incidental proof that none should join themselves to the church who are not “believers”; that is, who do not profess to be Christians in heart and in life. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-16Verses 12-16 The separation of hypocrites by distinguishing judgments, should make the sincere cleave closer to each other and to the gospel ministry. Christ will work by all his faithful servants; and every one who…Read the comment
