Zephaniah 1:2-18
2“I will completely 1remove all things From the face of the 2earth,” declares the Lord.3“I will remove 3man and beast; I will remove the 4birds of the sky And the fish of the sea, And the 56ruins along with the wicked; And I will cut off man from the face of the 7earth,” declares the Lord.4“So I will 8stretch out My hand against Judah And against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And I will 9cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, And the names of the 10idolatrous priests along with the priests.5And those who bow down on the 11housetops to the host of heaven, And those who bow down and 12swear to the Lord and yet swear by 1314Milcom,6And those who have 15turned back from following the Lord, And those who have 16not sought the Lord or inquired of Him.”
71718Be silent before the Lord 19God! For the 20day of the Lord is near, For the Lord has prepared a 21sacrifice, He has 22consecrated His guests.8“Then it will come about on the day of the Lord’s sacrifice That I will 23punish the princes, the king’s sons And all who clothe themselves with 24foreign garments.9And I will punish on that day all who leap on the temple threshold, Who fill the house of their 25lord with 26violence and deceit.10On that day,” declares the Lord, “There will be the sound of a cry from the 27Fish Gate, A wail from the 2829Second Quarter, And a loud crash from the 30hills.11Wail, O inhabitants of the 31Mortar, For all the 32people of 33Canaan will be silenced; All who weigh out 34silver will be cut off.12It will come about at that time That I will 35search Jerusalem with lamps, And I will punish the men Who are 3637stagnant in spirit, Who say in their hearts, ‘The Lord will 38not do good or evil!’13Moreover, their wealth will become 39plunder And their houses desolate; Yes, 40they will build houses but not inhabit them, And plant vineyards but not drink their wine.”
14Near is the 41great 42day of the Lord, Near and coming very quickly; Listen, the day of the Lord! 43In it the warrior 44cries out bitterly.15A day of wrath is that day, A day of 45trouble and distress, A day of destruction and desolation, A day of 46darkness and gloom, A day of clouds and thick darkness,16A day of 47trumpet and battle cry Against the 48fortified cities And the high corner towers.17I will bring 49distress on men So that they will walk 50like the blind, Because they have sinned against the Lord; And their 51blood will be poured out like dust And their 52flesh like dung.18Neither their 53silver nor their gold Will be able to deliver them On the day of the Lord’s wrath; And 54all the earth will be devoured In the fire of His jealousy, For He will 55make a complete end, Indeed a terrifying one, Of all the inhabitants of the earth.
