Titus 1:1-10
1Paul, 1a bond-servant of God and an 2apostle of Jesus Christ, 3for the faith of those 4chosen of God and 5the knowledge of the truth which is 6according to godliness, 2in 7the hope of eternal life, which God, 8who cannot lie, 9promised 1011long ages ago, 3but 12at the proper time manifested, even His word, in 13the proclamation 14with which I was entrusted 15according to the commandment of 16God our Savior,
4To 17Titus, 18my true child 19in a 20common faith: 21Grace and peace from God the Father and 22Christ Jesus our Savior.
5For this reason I left you in 23Crete, that you would set in order what remains and 24appoint 25elders in every city as I directed you, 6namely, 26if any man is above reproach, the 27husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of 28dissipation or 29rebellion. 7For the 3031overseer must be above reproach as 32God’s steward, not 33self-willed, not quick-tempered, not 34addicted to wine, not pugnacious, 35not fond of sordid gain, 8but 36hospitable, 37loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, 938holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in 39sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.
1040For there are many 41rebellious men, 42empty talkers and deceivers, especially 43those of the circumcision,
