Lamentations 4:3-12
3Even 1jackals offer the breast, They nurse their young; But the daughter of my people has become 2cruel Like 3ostriches in the wilderness.4The 4tongue of the infant cleaves To the roof of its mouth because of 5thirst; The little ones 6ask for bread, But no one breaks it for them.5Those who ate 7delicacies Are desolate in the streets; Those 8reared in purple Embrace ash pits.6For the 9iniquity of the daughter of my people Is greater than the 1011sin of Sodom, Which was 12overthrown as in a moment, And no hands were 13turned toward her.7Her 14consecrated ones were 15purer than snow, They were whiter than milk; They were more ruddy in 16body than corals, Their polishing was like 1718lapis lazuli.8Their appearance is 19blacker than soot, They are not recognized in the streets; Their 20skin is shriveled on their bones, It is withered, it has become like wood.9Better are those 2122slain with the sword Than those 23slain with hunger; For they 2425pine away, being stricken For lack of the fruits of 26the field.10The hands of compassionate women 27Boiled their own children; They became 28food for them Because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.11The Lord has 29accomplished His wrath, He has poured out His fierce anger; And He has 30kindled a fire in Zion Which has consumed its foundations.12The kings of the earth did not believe, Nor did any of 31the inhabitants of the world, That the adversary and the enemy Could 32enter the gates of Jerusalem.
