John 8:33-40

33They answered Him, “1We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

34Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, 2everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 353The slave does not remain in the house forever; 4the son does remain forever. 36So if the Son 5makes you free, you will be free indeed. 37I know that you are 6Abraham’s descendants; yet 7you seek to kill Me, because My word 8has no place in you. 38I speak the things which I have seen 9with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from 10your father.”

39They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is 11our father.” Jesus said to them, “12If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40But as it is, 13you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has 14told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do.
