James 5:4-20
4Behold, 1the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and 2the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of 3the Lord of 4Sabaoth. 5You have 5lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have 6fattened your hearts in 7a day of slaughter. 6You have condemned and 89put to death 10the righteous man; he does not resist you.
7Therefore be patient, 11brethren, 12until the coming of the Lord. 13The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until 14it gets 15the early and late rains. 816You too be patient; 17strengthen your hearts, for 18the coming of the Lord is 19near. 920Do not 21complain, 22brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, 23the Judge is standing 2425right at the 26door. 10As an example, 27brethren, of suffering and patience, take 28the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11We count those 29blessed who endured. You have heard of 30the 31endurance of Job and have seen 32the 33outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that 34the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.
12But above all, 35my brethren, 36do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but 37your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.
13Is anyone among you 38suffering? 39Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to 40sing praises. 14Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for 41the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, 4243anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15and the 44prayer 45offered in faith will 4647restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will 48raise him up, and if he has committed sins, 49they will be forgiven him. 16Therefore, 50confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be 51healed. 52The effective 53prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. 17Elijah was 54a man with a nature like ours, and 55he prayed 56earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for 57three years and six months. 18Then he 58prayed again, and 59the 60sky 61poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.
19My brethren, 62if any among you strays from 63the truth and one turns him back, 20let him know that 64he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will 65save his soul from death and will 66cover a multitude of sins.
