Genesis 15:4-8

4Then behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This man will not be your heir; 1but one who will come forth from your own 2body, he shall be your heir.”

5And He took him outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and 3count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, “4So shall your 5descendants be.”

66Then he believed in the Lord; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.

7And He said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you out of 7Ur of the Chaldeans, to 8give you this land to 9possess it.”

8He said, “O Lord 10God, 11how may I know that I will 12possess it?”
