Galatians 4:14-31
14and that which was a 1trial to you in my 2bodily condition you did not despise or 3loathe, but 4you received me as an angel of God, as 5Christ Jesus Himself. 15Where then is 6that sense of blessing you had? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me. 16So have I become your enemy 7by 8telling you the truth? 17They eagerly seek you, not commendably, but they wish to shut you out so that you will seek them. 18But it is good always to be eagerly sought in a commendable 9manner, and 10not only when I am present with you. 1911My children, with whom 12I am again in labor until 13Christ is formed in you-- 20but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for 14I am perplexed about you.
21Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not 15listen to the law? 22For it is written that Abraham had two sons, 16one by the bondwoman and 17one by the free woman. 23But 18the son by the bondwoman 19was born according to the flesh, and 20the son by the free woman through the promise. 242122This is allegorically speaking, for these women are two covenants: one proceeding from 23Mount Sinai bearing children 24who are to be 25slaves; 26she is Hagar. 25Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. 26But 27the Jerusalem above is free; 28she is our mother. 27For it is written, “29Rejoice, barren woman who does not bear; Break forth and shout, you who are not in labor; For more numerous are the children of the desolate Than of the one who has a husband.” 28And you brethren, 30like Isaac, are 31children of promise. 29But as at that time 32he who was born according to the flesh 33persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, 34so it is now also. 30But what does the Scripture say? “35Cast out the bondwoman and her son, For 36the son of the bondwoman shall not be an heir with the son of the free woman.” 31So then, brethren, we are not children of a bondwoman, 37but of the free woman.
