Ephesians 4
Unity of the Spirit
1Therefore I, 1the prisoner of the Lord, 2implore you to 3walk in a manner worthy of the 4calling with which you have been 5called, 2with all 6humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another 7in love, 3being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the 8bond of peace. 4There is 9one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one 10hope of your calling; 511one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6one God and Father of all 12who is over all and through all and in all.
7But 13to each one of us 14grace was given 15according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8Therefore 16it says, “17When He ascended on high, He 18led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.” 9(Now this expression, “He 19ascended,” what 20does it mean except that He also 21had descended into 22the lower parts of the earth? 10He who descended is Himself also He who ascended 23far above all the heavens, so that He might 24fill all things.) 11And He 25gave 26some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as 27evangelists, and some as pastors and 28teachers, 1229for the equipping of the 30saints for the work of service, to the building up of 31the body of Christ; 13until we all attain to 32the unity of the faith, and of the 3334knowledge of the Son of God, to a 35mature man, to the measure of the stature 36which belongs to the 37fullness of Christ. 1438As a result, we are 39no longer to be children, 40tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by 41craftiness 42in 43deceitful scheming; 15but 44speaking the truth 45in love, 46we are to 47grow up in all aspects into Him who is the 48head, even Christ, 16from whom 49the whole body, being fitted and held together 50by what every joint supplies, according to the 51proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself 52in love.
The Christian’s Walk
1753So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, 54that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the 55futility of their mind, 18being 56darkened in their understanding, 5758excluded from the life of God because of the 59ignorance that is in them, because of the 60hardness of their heart; 19and they, having 61become callous, 62have given themselves over to 63sensuality 64for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20But you did not 65learn 66Christ in this way, 21if indeed you 67have heard Him and have 68been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22that, in reference to your former manner of life, you 69lay aside the 70old 71self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the 72lusts of deceit, 23and that you be 73renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24and 74put on the 75new 76self, which 7778in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
25Therefore, 79laying aside falsehood, 80speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are 81members of one another. 2682Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27and do not 83give the devil 84an opportunity. 28He who steals must steal no longer; but rather 85he must labor, 86performing with his own hands what is good, 87so that he will have something to share with 88one who has need. 29Let no 8990unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for 91edification 92according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. 3093Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, 94by whom you were 95sealed for the day of redemption. 3196Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be 97put away from you, along with all 98malice. 3299Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, 100just as God in Christ also has forgiven 101you.
