Context of 2 Chronicles 35:6

4Prepare yourselves by your fathers’ households in your divisions, according to the writing of David king of Israel and according to the writing of his son Solomon. 5Moreover, stand in the holy place according to the sections of the fathers’ households of your brethren the lay people, and according to the Levites, by division of a father’s household. Now slaughter the Passover animals, sanctify yourselves and prepare for your brethren to do according to the word of the Lord by Moses.” 7Josiah contributed to the lay people, to all who were present, flocks of lambs and young goats, all for the Passover offerings, numbering 30,000 plus 3,000 bulls; these were from the king’s possessions. 8His officers also contributed a freewill offering to the people, the priests and the Levites. Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, the officials of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings 2,600 from the flocks and 300 bulls.

• Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6Prepare your brethren … - i. e. “as you minister to your brethren the people, by killing and flaying their offerings and handing the blood to the priests, instruct them how they are to eat the Passover acceptably.” It is implied that many would be ignorant of the requirements of the Law.Read the comment
• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 4-6The priests and Levites followed the instructions of David and Solomon (2 Chronicles 8:14–15; 1 Chronicles 24–26). Usually, the person offering the Passover animal would slaughter it (Deuteronomy 16:5–6). However, because the offerers did not have time to purify themselves, Josiah continued Hezekiah's practice of having the Levites slaughter the Passover animals (see 2 Chronicles 30:13–20). During Josiah’s time, the large number of participants might have…Read the comment
• Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. So kill the passover, &c.--The design of the minute directions given here was to facilitate the distribution of the paschal lambs. These were to be eaten by the respective families according to their numbers (Ex 12:3). But multitudes of the people, especially those from Israel, having been reduced to poverty through the Assyrian devastations, were to be provided with the means of commemorating the passover. Therefore, the king enjoined the Levites that…Read the comment
