Thessalonians 5:1-8

Now as to the 1times and the epochs, brethren, you 2have no need of anything to be written to you.

For you yourselves know full well that 3the day of the Lord 4will come 5just like a thief in the night.

While they are saying, “6Peace and safety!” then 7 8destruction 9will come upon them suddenly like 10labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.

But you, brethren, are not in 11darkness, that the day would overtake you 12 13like a thief;

for you are all 14sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of 15darkness;

so then let us not 16sleep as 17 18others do, but let us be alert and 19 20sober.

For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get 21drunk at night.

But since 22we are of the day, let us 23be 24sober, having put on the 25breastplate of 26faith and love, and as a 27helmet, the 28hope of salvation.
