1 Thessalonians 2:1-8

1For you yourselves know, brethren, that our 12coming to you 3was not in vain, 2but after we had already suffered and been 4mistreated in 5Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God 6to speak to you the 7gospel of God amid much 89opposition. 3For our 10exhortation does not come from 11error or 12impurity or 13by way of 14deceit; 415but just as we have been approved by God to be 16entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, 17not as pleasing men, but God who 1819examines our hearts. 5For we never came 20with flattering speech, as you know, nor with 21a pretext for greed--22God is witness-- 6nor did we 23seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as 24apostles of Christ 25we might have 26asserted our authority. 7But we 27proved to be 2829gentle 30among you, 31as a nursing mother 32tenderly cares for her own children. 8Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to 33impart to you not only the 34gospel of God but also our own 35lives, because you had become 36very dear to us.
