Context of Hebrews 2:10
8You put everything under his control.” When God put everything under his Son’s control, nothing was left out. However, at the present time we still don’t see everything under his Son’s control. 9Jesus was made a little lower than the angels, but we see him crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death. Through God’s kindness he died on behalf of everyone. God is the one for whom and through whom everything exists. Therefore, while God was bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was the right time to bring Jesus, the source of their salvation, to the end of his work through suffering. 11Jesus, who makes people holy, and all those who are made holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus isn’t ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. 12He says, “I will tell my people about your name. I will praise you within the congregation.”

Commentaries on Hebrews 2:10
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10For it became him - It was suitable to the Divine wisdom, the requisitions of justice, and the economy of grace, to offer Jesus as a sacrifice, in order to bring many sons and daughters to glory. For whom - and by whom - God is the cause of all things, and he is the object or end of them. Perfect through sufferings - Without suffering he could not have died, and without dying he could not have made an atonement for sin. The sacrifice must be consummated…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10For it became him - There was a fitness or propriety in it; it was such an arrangement as became God to make, in redeeming many, that the great agent by whom it was accomplished, should be made complete in all respects by sufferings. The apostle evidently means by this to meet an objection that might be offered by a Jew to the doctrine which he had been stating - an objection drawn from the fact that Jesus was a man of sorrows, and that his life was a…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-13Verses 10-13 Whatever the proud, carnal, and unbelieving may imagine or object, the spiritual mind will see peculiar glory in the cross of Christ, and be satisfied that it became Him, who in all things displays his own perfections in bringing many sons to glory, to make the Author of their salvation perfect through sufferings. His way to the crown was by the cross, and so must that of his people be. Christ sanctifies; he has purchased and sent the…Read the comment

It could also mean founder, hero, champion, prince, captain, leader, or scout. Jesus is called the author because he began the work of salvation and guides people to glory.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1010. For--giving a reason why "the grace of God" required that Jesus "should taste death." it became him--The whole plan was (not only not derogatory to, but) highly becoming God, though unbelief considers it a disgrace [Bengel]. An answer to the Jews, and Hebrew Christians, whosoever, through impatience at the delay in the promised advent of Christ's glory, were in danger of apostasy, stumbling at Christ crucified. The Jerusalem Christians especially were…Read the comment
