God’s Word Translation
1 John 2:27
27The anointing you received from Christ lives in you. You don’t need anyone to teach you something else. Instead, Christ’s anointing teaches you about everything. His anointing is true and contains no lie. So live in Christ as he taught you to do.

- New International Version (NIV)As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

- New King James Version (NKJV)But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
Context of 1 John 2:27
25Christ has given us the promise of eternal life. 26I’m writing to you about those who are trying to deceive you. The anointing you received from Christ lives in you. You don’t need anyone to teach you something else. Instead, Christ’s anointing teaches you about everything. His anointing is true and contains no lie. So live in Christ as he taught you to do. 28Now, dear children, live in Christ. Then, when he appears we will have confidence, and when he comes we won’t turn from him in shame. 29If you know that Christ has God’s approval, you also know that everyone who does what God approves of has been born from God.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 27But the anointing which ye have received - That ointment, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, mentioned 1 John 2:20; (note). Ye need not that any man teach you - The Gnostics, who pretended to the highest illumination, could bring no proof that they were divinely taught, nor had they any thing in their teaching worthy the acceptance of the meanest Christian; therefore they had no need of that, nor of any other teaching but that which the same anointing…Read the comment

The apostle evidently meant to say that he felt assured that they would not be seduced from the truth, and that his confidence in regard to this was placed in the fact that…Read the comment

The Spirit of truth will not lie; and he teaches all things in the present dispensation, all things necessary to our knowledge of God in…Read the comment
