Luke 12:33
33So sell what you have and give the money to poor people. Then you will have valuable things in heaven. That is like keeping your money in a bag that will never have any holes in it. There, the value of your things will never become less. There, nobody can take them from you. Insects cannot destroy them.

Context of Luke 12:33
31Instead, always think about the things that are important in the kingdom of God. Then God will also give you the things that you need each day. 32You are only a small group of people, but do not be afraid. Your Father God has given his kingdom to you. He is happy to do that. So sell what you have and give the money to poor people. Then you will have valuable things in heaven. That is like keeping your money in a bag that will never have any holes in it. There, the value of your things will never become less. There, nobody can take them from you. Insects cannot destroy them. 34If you do that, you will be thinking a lot about heaven. That is where you will have stored your valuable things.’ 35Jesus said, ‘Always be ready for my return. Be like people that are ready to start work at any time. They have put on their clothes so that they are ready for work. And they have lit their lamps.

Commentaries on Luke 12:33
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 33Sell that ye have - Dispose of your goods. Be not like the foolish man already mentioned, who laid up the produce of his fields, without permitting the poor to partake of God's bounty: turn the fruits of your fields (which are beyond what you need for your own support) into money, and give it in alms; and the treasure thus laid out, shall be as laid up for yourselves and families in heaven. This purse shall not grow old, and this treasure shill not decay…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 33Sell that ye have - Sell your property. Exchange it for that which you can use in distributing charity. This was the condition of their being disciples. Their property they gave up; they forsook it, or they put it into common stock, for the sake of giving alms to the poor, Acts 2:44; Acts 4:32; John 12:6; Acts 5:2. Bags which wax not old - The word “bags,” here, means “purses,” or the bags attached to their girdles, in which they carried their money. See…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-40Verses 22-40 Christ largely insisted upon this caution not to give way to disquieting, perplexing cares, Mt 6:25-34. The arguments here used are for our encouragement to cast our care upon God, which is the right way to get ease. As in our stature, so in our state, it is our wisdom to take it as it is. An eager, anxious pursuit of the things of this world, even necessary things, ill becomes the disciples of Christ. Fears must not prevail; when we frighten…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 33Sell your possessions and give to the poor: This is not a command to sell everything a person owns, because other parts of the Bible assume that believers may own property. Instead, it means recognizing that everything we have belongs to God and should be used to serve him and his people (see Acts 2:44–45; 4:32–34). Believers are responsible for helping the poor, especially other believers (Galatians 6:10). treasure in heaven: See Luke 16:1–13 and Matthew…Read the comment
