The Coming Glory of God’s House
1On the twenty-first dayH6242H259 of the seventhH7637 monthH2320, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 throughH3027 HaggaiH2292 the prophetH5030, sayingH559: 2“SpeakH559H4994 toH413 ZerubbabelH2216 sonH1121 of ShealtielH7597, governorH6346 of JudahH3063, and toH413 JoshuaH3091 sonH1121 of JehozadakH3087,1 the highH1419 priestH3548, and also toH413 the remnantH7611 of the peopleH5971. Ask themH559, 3‘WhoH4310 is leftH7604 among you whoH834 sawH7200 thisH2088 houseH1004 in its formerH7223 gloryH3519? HowH4100 does it lookH7200 to youH859 nowH6258? Does it notH3808 appear to youH5869 like nothingH369 in comparisonH3644?’
6ForH3588 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635 saysH559:
Blessings for a Defiled People
10On the twenty-fourth dayH6242H702 of the ninthH8671 month, in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of DariusH1867, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 toH413 HaggaiH2292 the prophetH5030, sayingH559, 11“This is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635 saysH559: ‘AskH7592H4994 the priestsH3548 for a rulingH8451H559. 12IfH2005 a manH376 carriesH5375 consecratedH6944 meatH1320 in the foldH3671 of his garmentH899, and itH3671H413 touchesH5060 breadH3899H413, stewH5138H413, wineH3196H413, oilH8081H413, or anyH3605 other foodH3978, does that item become holyH6942?’”
“NoH3808H559,” repliedH6030 the priestsH3548.
13So HaggaiH2292 askedH559, “IfH518 one who is defiledH2931 by contact with a corpseH5315 touchesH5060 anyH3605 of theseH428, does it become defiledH2930?”
“Yes, it becomes defiledH2930,” the priestsH3548H559 answeredH6030.
14Then HaggaiH2292H559 repliedH6030, “SoH3651 it is with thisH2088 peopleH5971 and thisH2088 nationH1471 before MeH6440, declaresH5002 the LORDH3068, and soH3651 it is with everyH3605 workH4639 of their handsH3027; whateverH834 they offerH7126 thereH8033 is defiledH2931H1931.
15NowH6258 considerH7760H3824 carefullyH4994 fromH4480 thisH2088 dayH3117 forwardH4605:3 BeforeH2962 one stoneH68 was placedH7760 onH413 anotherH68 in the templeH1964 of the LORDH3068, 16from that timeH1961, when one cameH935 expectingH413 a heapH6194 of twentyH6242 ephahs of grain,4 there wereH1961 but tenH6235. When one cameH935 toH413 the winepressH3342 to draw outH2834 fiftyH2572 baths,5 there wereH1961 but twentyH6242. 17I struck youH5221—allH3605 the workH4639 of your handsH3027—with blightH7711, mildewH3420, and hailH1259, but you did notH369 turn to MeH413, declaresH5002 the LORDH3068.
18Consider carefullyH7760H4994H3824 fromH4480 thisH2088 dayH3117 forwardH4605—fromH4480 the twenty-fourthH6242H702 dayH3117 of the ninthH8671 month, the dayH3117 the foundation of the LORD’sH3068 templeH1964 was laidH3245—consider carefullyH7760H3824: 19Is there stillH5750 seedH2233 in the barnH4035? The vineH1612, the figH8384, the pomegranateH7416, and the oliveH2132 treeH6086 have notH3808 yetH5704 yieldedH5375 fruit. But fromH4480 thisH2088 day onH3117, I will bless youH1288.”
Zerubbabel the LORD’s Signet Ring
20For the second time that dayH8145, the twenty-fourthH6242H702 day of the monthH2320, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 toH413 HaggaiH2292, sayingH559, 21“TellH559H413 ZerubbabelH2216 governorH6346 of JudahH3063 that IH589 am about to shakeH7493 the heavensH8064 and the earthH776:
