Context of Mark 1:39

37And when they found Him, they said to Him, “Everybody’s looking for You.” 38He said to them, “Let’s go somewhere else, to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also—this is what I came for.” And He went throughout all the Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and driving out demons. 40A man with tza'arat comes to Him, begging Him and falling on his knees, saying, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” 41Moved with compassion, Yeshua stretched out His hand and touched him. He said, “I am willing. Be cleansed.”

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 39And he preached - He continued preaching - : this is the proper meaning of the words: he never slackened his pace - he continued proclaiming the glad tidings of salvation to all - there was no time to be lost - immortal souls were perishing for lack of knowledge; and the grand adversary was prowling about, seeking whom he might devour. This zealous, affectionate, and persevering diligence of Christ should be copied by all his servants in the ministry; it…Read the comment

• Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 29-39Verses 29-39 Wherever Christ comes, he comes to do good. He cures, that we may minister to him, and to others who are his, and for his sake. Those kept from public ordinances by sickness or other real hinderances, may expect the Saviour's gracious presence; he will soothe their sorrows, and abate their pains. Observe how numerous the patients were. When others speed well with Christ, it should quicken us in seeking after him. Christ departed into a…Read the comment
• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 38-39Prayer equipped Jesus to preach, teach, heal, and drive out demons (1:35). The mission of Jesus in Galilee focused on preaching in the synagogues, where he took the opportunity to speak (1:21; Luke 4:16–30). The apostle Paul later took advantage of this same opportunity (Acts 13:5, 14–15; 14:1; 16:13; 17:1). Jesus relied on the Jewish practice of kindness to strangers when he traveled (compare Mark 6:10; Genesis 18:1–8; 19:1–8; Luke 10:7; Hebrews 13:2; 3…Read the comment
