Context of Luke 16:12
10“One who is faithful in the smallest matters is also faithful in much, and the one unjust in the smallest matters will likewise be unjust in much. 11So then, if you cannot be trusted with unjust wealth, who will trust you with true wealth? Now if you have not been trustworthy with what belongs to another, who will give you anything of your own? 13No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick by one and look down on the other. You cannot serve God and money.” 14Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and sneering at Yeshua.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12That which is another man's - Or rather another's, ͅ . That is, worldly riches, called another's: Because they belong to God, and he has not designed that they should be any man's portion. Because they are continually changing their possessors, being in the way of commerce, and in providence going from one to another. This property of worldly goods is often referred to by both sacred and profane writers. See a fine passage in Horace, Sat. l. ii. s. 2. v…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Another man‘s - The word “man‘s” is not in the original. It is, “If ye have been unfaithful managers for another.” It refers, doubtless, to “God.” The wealth of the world is “his.” It is committed to us as his stewards. It is uncertain and deceitful, and at any moment he can take it away from us. It is still “his;” and if, while intrusted with “this,” we are unfaithful, we cannot expect that he will confer on us the rewards of heaven. That which is your…Read the comment
