Context of Luke 16:12
10If you can trust a person with a very small thing, you can also trust him with bigger things. And if you cannot trust a person with a very small thing, you cannot trust him with big things. 11So if people cannot trust you with money in this world, nobody will trust you with really valuable things. And if people cannot trust you with other people's things, nobody will give you things for yourself. 13A slave cannot work for two masters at the same time. Maybe he will hate one of the masters, but he will love the other one. Or he will work well for one master, but he will think bad things about the other one. God and money are like different masters. You cannot work for both of them.’ 14The Pharisees heard all this. They loved money very much, so they laughed at Jesus. They said to him, ‘You are wrong.’

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12That which is another man's - Or rather another's, ͅ . That is, worldly riches, called another's: Because they belong to God, and he has not designed that they should be any man's portion. Because they are continually changing their possessors, being in the way of commerce, and in providence going from one to another. This property of worldly goods is often referred to by both sacred and profane writers. See a fine passage in Horace, Sat. l. ii. s. 2. v…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Another man‘s - The word “man‘s” is not in the original. It is, “If ye have been unfaithful managers for another.” It refers, doubtless, to “God.” The wealth of the world is “his.” It is committed to us as his stewards. It is uncertain and deceitful, and at any moment he can take it away from us. It is still “his;” and if, while intrusted with “this,” we are unfaithful, we cannot expect that he will confer on us the rewards of heaven. That which is your…Read the comment
