And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

Commentaries on Romans 2:3
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 3And thinkest thou - This is an appeal to their common sense, to their deep and instinctive conviction of what was right. If they condemned those who practiced these things; if, imperfect and obscure as their sense of justice was; if, unholy as they were, they yet condemned those who were guffey of these offences, would not a holy and just God be far more likely to pronounce judgment? And could they escape who had themselves delivered a similar sentence?…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-5You is singular in the Greek text. Here, you refers to a hypothetical Jew who feels superior to Gentiles and believes that he is not in danger of judgment.
