Lamentations 2:11-22

11My 1eyes fail because of tears, My 23spirit is greatly troubled; My 45heart is poured out on the earth 6Because of the 7destruction of the daughter of my people, When 8little ones and infants faint In the streets of the city.12They say to their mothers, “9Where is grain and wine?” As they faint like a wounded man In the streets of the city, As their 10life is poured out On their mothers’ bosom.13How shall I admonish you? To what 11shall I compare you, O daughter of Jerusalem? To what shall I liken you as I comfort you, O 12virgin daughter of Zion? For your 13ruin is as vast as the sea; Who can 14heal you?14Your 15prophets have seen for you False and foolish visions; And they have not 16exposed your iniquity So as to restore you from captivity, But they have 17seen for you false and misleading 18oracles.15All who pass along the way 19Clap their hands in derision at you; They 20hiss and shake their heads At the daughter of Jerusalem, “Is this the city of which they said, ‘21The perfection of beauty, 22A joy to all the earth’?”16All 23your enemies Have opened their mouths wide against you; They hiss and 24gnash their teeth. They say, “We have 25swallowed her up! Surely this is the 26day for which we waited; We have reached it, we have seen it.”17The Lord has 27done what He purposed; He has accomplished His word Which He commanded from days of old. He has thrown down 28without sparing, And He has caused the enemy to 29rejoice over you; He has 30exalted the 31might of your adversaries.18Their 32heart cried out to the Lord, “O 33wall of the daughter of Zion, Let your 34tears run down like a river day and night; Give yourself no relief, Let 35your eyes have no rest.19Arise, cry aloud in the 36night At the beginning of the night watches; 37Pour out your heart like water Before the presence of the Lord; Lift up your hands to Him For the 38life of your little ones Who are 39faint because of hunger At the head of every street.”20See, O Lord, and look! With 40whom have You dealt thus? Should women 41eat their 42offspring, The little ones who were 43born healthy? Should 44priest and prophet be slain In the sanctuary of the Lord?21On the ground in the streets Lie 45young and old; My 46virgins and my young men Have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of Your anger, You have slaughtered, 47not sparing.22You called as in the day of an appointed feast My 48terrors on every side; And there was 49no one who escaped or survived In the day of the Lord’s anger. Those 50whom I 51bore and reared, My enemy annihilated them.
