John 6:28-71
28Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is 1the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He 2has sent.” 30So they said to Him, “3What then do You do for a 4sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 315Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘6He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’” 32Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33For the bread of God is 7that which 8comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34Then they said to Him, “Lord, always 9give us this bread.”
35Jesus said to them, “10I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me 11will never thirst. 36But 12I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. 3713All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. 38For 14I have come down from heaven, 15not to do My own will, but 16the will of Him who 17sent Me. 39This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of 18all that He has given Me I 19lose nothing, but 20raise it up on the last day. 40For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who 21beholds the Son and 22believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will 23raise him up on the last day.”
4124Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that 25came down out of heaven.” 42They were saying, “26Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother 27we know? How does He now say, ‘28I have come down out of heaven’?” 43Jesus answered and said to them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. 44No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me 29draws him; and I will 30raise him up on the last day. 45It is written 31in the prophets, ‘32And they shall all be 33taught of God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. 4634Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. 47Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes 35has eternal life. 4836I am the bread of life. 4937Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50This is the bread which 38comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and 39not die. 5140I am the living bread that 41came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, 42he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give 43for the life of the world is 44My flesh.”
5245Then the Jews 46began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” 53So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of 47the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. 54He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will 48raise him up on the last day. 55For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. 56He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood 49abides in Me, and I in him. 57As the 50living Father 51sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. 58This is the bread which 52came down out of heaven; not as 53the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread 54will live forever.” 59These things He said 55in the synagogue as He taught 56in Capernaum.
60Therefore many of His 57disciples, when they heard this said, “58This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?” 61But Jesus, 59conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this 60cause you to stumble? 62What then if you see 61the Son of Man 62ascending to where He was before? 6363It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; 64the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. 64But there are 65some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus 66knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and 67who it was that would 68betray Him. 65And He was saying, “For this reason I have 69said to you, that no one can come to Me unless 70it has been granted him from the Father.”
66As a result of this many of His 71disciples 72withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. 67So Jesus said to 73the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” 6874Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have 75words of eternal life. 69We have believed and have come to know that You are 76the Holy One of God.” 70Jesus answered them, “77Did I Myself not choose you, 78the twelve, and yet one of you is 79a devil?” 71Now He meant Judas 80the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, 81one of 82the twelve, 83was going to betray Him.
