John 6:25-65

25When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “1Rabbi, when did You get here?”

26Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you 2seek Me, not because you saw 3signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27Do not 4work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to 5eternal life, which 6the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, 7has set His seal.” 28Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is 8the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He 9has sent.” 30So they said to Him, “10What then do You do for a 11sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 3112Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘13He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’” 32Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33For the bread of God is 14that which 15comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34Then they said to Him, “Lord, always 16give us this bread.”

35Jesus said to them, “17I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me 18will never thirst. 36But 19I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. 3720All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. 38For 21I have come down from heaven, 22not to do My own will, but 23the will of Him who 24sent Me. 39This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of 25all that He has given Me I 26lose nothing, but 27raise it up on the last day. 40For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who 28beholds the Son and 29believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will 30raise him up on the last day.”

4131Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that 32came down out of heaven.” 42They were saying, “33Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother 34we know? How does He now say, ‘35I have come down out of heaven’?” 43Jesus answered and said to them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. 44No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me 36draws him; and I will 37raise him up on the last day. 45It is written 38in the prophets, ‘39And they shall all be 40taught of God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. 4641Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. 47Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes 42has eternal life. 4843I am the bread of life. 4944Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50This is the bread which 45comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and 46not die. 5147I am the living bread that 48came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, 49he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give 50for the life of the world is 51My flesh.”

5252Then the Jews 53began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” 53So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of 54the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. 54He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will 55raise him up on the last day. 55For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. 56He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood 56abides in Me, and I in him. 57As the 57living Father 58sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. 58This is the bread which 59came down out of heaven; not as 60the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread 61will live forever.” 59These things He said 62in the synagogue as He taught 63in Capernaum.

60Therefore many of His 64disciples, when they heard this said, “65This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?” 61But Jesus, 66conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this 67cause you to stumble? 62What then if you see 68the Son of Man 69ascending to where He was before? 6370It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; 71the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. 64But there are 72some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus 73knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and 74who it was that would 75betray Him. 65And He was saying, “For this reason I have 76said to you, that no one can come to Me unless 77it has been granted him from the Father.”
