Job 15:17-35
17“I will tell you, listen to me; And what I have seen I will also declare;18What wise men have told, And have not concealed from 1their fathers,19To whom alone the land was given, And no alien passed among them.20The wicked man writhes 2in pain all his days, And 3numbered are the years 4stored up for the ruthless.215Sounds of 6terror are in his ears; 7While at peace the destroyer comes upon him.22He does not believe that he will 8return from darkness, And he is destined for 9the sword.23He wanders about for food, saying, ‘Where is it?’ He knows that a day of 10darkness is 11at hand.24Distress and anguish terrify him, They overpower him like a king ready for the attack,25Because he has stretched out his hand against God And conducts himself 12arrogantly against 13the Almighty.26He rushes 14headlong at Him With 15his massive shield.27For he has 16covered his face with his fat And made his thighs heavy with flesh.28He has 17lived in desolate cities, In houses no one would inhabit, Which are destined to become 18ruins.29He 19will not become rich, nor will his wealth endure; And his grain will not bend down to the ground.30He will 20not 21escape from darkness; The 22flame will wither his shoots, And by 23the breath of His mouth he will go away.31Let him not 24trust in emptiness, deceiving himself; For emptiness will be his 25reward.32It will be accomplished 26before his time, And his palm 27branch will not be green.33He will drop off his unripe grape like the vine, And will 28cast off his flower like the olive tree.34For the company of 29the godless is barren, And fire consumes 30the tents of 31the corrupt.35They 32conceive 33mischief and bring forth iniquity, And their 34mind prepares deception.”
