Daniel 1:5-8
5The king appointed for them a daily ration from the 1king’s choice food and from the wine which he drank, and appointed that they should be 2educated three years, at the end of which they were to 34enter the king’s personal service. 6Now among them from the sons of Judah were 5Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. 7Then the commander of the officials assigned new names to them; and to Daniel he assigned the name 6Belteshazzar, to Hananiah 7Shadrach, to Mishael 8Meshach and to Azariah 9Abed-nego.
8But Daniel 10made up his mind that he would not 11defile himself with the 12king’s choice food or with the 13wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.
