New American Standard Bible 1995
1 John 2:3-7
31By this we know that we have come to 2know Him, if we 3keep His commandments. 4The one who says, “4I have come to 5know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a 6liar, and 7the truth is not in him; 5but whoever 8keeps His word, in him the 9love of God has truly been perfected. 10By this we know that we are in Him: 6the one who says he 11abides in Him 12ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
713Beloved, I am 14not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had 15from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard.
