2And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֨עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֩vai.yish.LachH7971menאֲנָשִׁ֜ים'a.na.ShimH582from Jerichoמִֽירִיח֗וֹmi.ri.ChoH3405to Aiהָעַ֞יha.'AiH5857, which isbesideעִם־'im-H5973Beth–avenH1007,on the east sideמִקֶּ֣דֶםmi.Ke.demH6924of Beth–elH1008,and spakeוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto them, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559,Go upעֲל֖וּ'a.LuH5927and viewוְרַגְּל֣וּve.ra.ge.LuH7270the countryהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776.And the menהָאֲנָשִׁ֔יםha.'a.na.ShimH582went upוַֽיַּעֲלוּ֙vai.ya.'a.LuH5927and viewedוַֽיְרַגְּל֖וּvay.ra.ge.LuH7270Aiהָעָֽי׃ha.'AiH5857.

3And they returnedוַיָּשֻׁ֣בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,and saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559unto him, Let not all the peopleהָעָם֒ha.'AmH5971go upיַ֣עַלYa.'alH5927;but let about two or threeכִּשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁתkish.Lo.shetH7969thousandH505menH376go upיַעֲל֖וּya.'a.LuH5927and smiteוְיַכּ֣וּve.ya.KuH5221Aiהָעָ֑יha.'AiH5857; andmake not all the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971to labourתְּיַגַּע־te.ya.ga'-H3021thither; for they are butfewמְעַ֖טme.'AtH4592.

4So there went upוַיַּעֲל֤וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927thither of the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971about threeכִּשְׁלֹ֥שֶׁתkish.Lo.shetH7969thousandאֲלָפִ֖ים'a.la.FimH505menאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376:and they fledוַיָּנֻ֕סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127beforeלִפְנֵ֖יlif.NeiH6440the menאַנְשֵׁ֥י'an.SheiH582of Aiהָעָֽי׃ha.'AiH5857.

5And the menאַנְשֵׁ֣י'an.SheiH582of Aiהָעַ֗יha.'AiH5857smoteוַיַּכּ֨וּvai.ya.KuH5221of them about thirtyכִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֤יםkish.lo.ShimH7970and sixוְשִׁשָּׁה֙ve.shi.ShahH8337menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376:for they chasedוַֽיִּרְדְּפ֞וּםvai.yir.de.FumH7291them frombeforeלִפְנֵ֤יlif.NeiH6440the gateהַשַּׁ֙עַר֙ha.Sha.'arH8179evenunto Shebarimהַשְּׁבָרִ֔יםha.she.va.RimH7671,and smoteוַיַּכּ֖וּםvai.ya.KumH5221them in the going downבַּמּוֹרָ֑דba.mo.RadH4174:wherefore the heartsלְבַב־le.vav-H3824of the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971meltedוַיִּמַּ֥סvai.yi.MasH4549,and became as waterלְמָֽיִם׃le.Ma.yimH4325.

9For the Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֗יha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669and all the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֣יyo.she.VeiH3427of the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776shall hearוְיִשְׁמְע֣וּve.yish.me.'UH8085of it,and shall environ us roundוְנָסַ֣בּוּve.na.Sa.buH5437,and cut offוְהִכְרִ֥יתוּve.hikh.Ri.tuH3772our nameשְׁמֵ֖נוּshe.Me.nuH8034from the earthהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776:and what wilt thou doתַּעֲשֵׂ֖הta.'a.SehH6213unto thy greatהַגָּדֽוֹל׃ סha.ga.DolH1419nameלְשִׁמְךָ֥le.shim.KhaH8034?

10And the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,Get thee upקֻ֣םkumH6965;wherefore liestנֹפֵ֥לno.FelH5307thou thus upon thy faceפָּנֶֽיךָ׃pa.Nei.khaH6440?

11Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478hath sinnedחָטָא֙cha.Ta'H2398,and they have also transgressedעָבְר֣וּ'a.ve.RuH5674my covenantבְּרִיתִ֔יbe.ri.TiH1285which I commandedצִוִּ֖יתִיtzi.Vi.tiH6680them: for they have even takenלָֽקְחוּ֙la.ke.ChuH3947of the accursed thingהַחֵ֔רֶםha.Che.remH2764,and have also stolenגָּֽנְבוּ֙ga.ne.VuH1589,and dissembledכִּֽחֲשׁ֔וּki.cha.ShuH3584also, and they have putשָׂ֥מוּSa.muH7760iteven among their own stuffבִכְלֵיהֶֽם׃vikh.lei.HemH3627.

12Therefore the childrenבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478couldיֻכְל֜וּyukh.LuH3201not standלָקוּם֙la.KumH6965beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440their enemiesאֹיְבֵיהֶ֔ם'o.ye.vei.HemH341, butturnedיִפְנוּ֙yif.NuH6437theirbacksעֹ֗רֶף'O.refH6203beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440their enemiesאֹֽיְבֵיהֶ֔ם'o.ye.vei.HemH341,because they were accursedלְחֵ֑רֶםle.Che.remH2764:neither will I be with you any moreאוֹסִיף֙'o.SifH3254,exceptH3808ye destroyתַשְׁמִ֛ידוּtash.Mi.duH8045the accursedהַחֵ֖רֶםha.Che.remH2764from amongמִֽקִּרְבְּכֶֽם׃Mi.kir.be.KhemH7130you.

14In the morningבַּבֹּ֖קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242therefore ye shall be broughtוְנִקְרַבְתֶּ֥םve.nik.rav.TemH7126according to your tribesלְשִׁבְטֵיכֶ֑םle.shiv.tei.KhemH7626: and it shall be, thatthe tribeהַשֵּׁבֶט֩ha.she.VetH7626which the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068takethיִלְכְּדֶ֨נּוּyil.ke.De.nuH3920shall comeיִקְרַ֣בyik.RavH7126according to the familiesלַמִּשְׁפָּח֗וֹתla.mish.pa.ChotH4940thereof;and the familyוְהַמִּשְׁפָּחָ֞הve.ha.mish.pa.ChahH4940which the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068shall takeיִלְכְּדֶ֤נָּהyil.ke.De.nahH3920shall comeתִּקְרַ֣בtik.RavH7126by householdsלַבָּתִּ֔יםla.ba.TimH1004;and the householdוְהַבַּ֙יִת֙ve.ha.Ba.yitH1004which the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068shall takeיִלְכְּדֶ֣נּוּyil.ke.De.nuH3920shall comeיִקְרַ֖בyik.RavH7126manH1397by manH1397.

16So Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091rose up earlyוַיַּשְׁכֵּ֤םvai.yash.KemH7925in the morningבַּבֹּ֔קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242,and broughtוַיַּקְרֵ֥בvai.yak.RevH7126Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478by their tribesלִשְׁבָטָ֑יוlish.va.TavH7626;and the tribeשֵׁ֥בֶטShe.vetH7626of Judahיְהוּדָֽה׃ye.hu.DahH3063was takenוַיִּלָּכֵ֖דvai.yi.la.KhedH3920:
